50th Anniversary Trip: In Turks and Caicos for Christmas, 23-25 Dec, 2019
After a quick overnight at Miami Airport (Hampton Inn East where our RV is parked), we hopped on a plane to Providenciales airport, Turks and Caicos. Then the fun began. 4 big planes from the states beat us there. Our plane was late in leaving due in part to torrential rains in the area the night before (up to 12"!). Our family were coming in from Charlotte, also delayed a bit. We allowed 2 hours for the connection in Provo, taking a puddle jumper to Grand Turk. Not good- between the late arrivals (us 10 min ahead of family) and not one, not two, not three but FOUR lines to get through, we made the plane by 10 minutes to spare and only because it was late departing. Lots of running around and begging the InterCaribbean Airways people to check us in instantly! We forgot that we have to go through long lines entering a foreign country.
Anyway, all 12 of us made it onto the 24 (or so) passenger plane and took the 20 min hop over to the little airport on Grand Turk. Interesting that the cruise port for TnC is there, not Provo. We had arranged for one little rental car and a couple of taxis to get us to our 3 unit triplex, Crabtree Apts
No sign of the rental from Tony's Car Rentals! And no cell phone service to call him! No problem mun, the nice traffic cop out front dialed Tony for me, he thought we were supposed to arrive 3 days before (despite 3 emails from me correcting him), and he showed up after a bit, island time. So 4 of us piled into the little Suzuki with son-in-law Herman driving, since he is from South Africa where driving is on the left too.
I don't need to attach pix of the Crabtree Apts as the website shows it really well. Situated right on the beach on the western shore of Grand Turk, it's perfect for us! Three almost identical 2BR units in one triplex; maybe too cozy for strangers, perfect for us.We ordered a carload of pizza for our first dinner there (Anne's Pizza) and went out to dinner on Christmas Eve, all planned by our daughter Laura. They also planned decorations and a delicious grilled tenderloin steak dinner for Christmas Day! We picked names for inexpensive gifts, gave some gift cards to the kids and enjoyed the beach! Not a bad Christmas! Here are some pix:

ReplyDeleteThanks, you too. Easy place to take nice pics, that's for sure!
DeleteNice TV! The boys are happy it gets ESPN for college bowl games. Constant breezes make it very comfortable. Dogs are fun during the day, not at night when they howl and bark!
