50th Anniversary Trip! Joni's nice birthday, moving day, 15-16 Dec

OK, tis day 4 of our trip to SXM so it's moving day, to Jardin D'O (in Mt. Vernon, just  a mile away from Cub F) for 3 days. Have loved our stay here at Club F and will miss the incredible view and friendliness of our hosts Chloe and Thierry but am sure the new ones will be nice too!

The stores and restaurants in OV (orient Village)  closed for a while on Saturday as requested by the gendarmes but then reopened in early evening. Not knowing of the re-opening, our hosts had kindly put together a yummy tapas dinner (appetizers) including deviled eggs, chicken wings, spring rolls etc. Merci! And the night was beautiful. We were looking at the view after dark and saw a parade of headlights coming down the hill from Grand Case so we knew things were freeing up again. Latest status Monday morning- clear to travel from here through Marigot and to the airport; still blockages in Orlean and Sandy Ground. This FB page has the latest, see translation under posts: 
No matter to us, we're here for 6 more days!

Sunday Club O beach was back in full operation although still a smallish crowd. We were happy to pay the $20 for umbrella and chairs, so we stayed through happy hour and snagged a couple more guavaberry coladas! Baguette with jelly for lunch. We've met 2 nice couples who are sorta newbies so of course we've had to share all our vast knowledge of naturism with them. 😉 We picked up a couple from Texas, Mike and Ginger, in the village and gave them a ride to the beach. They spent their honeymoon in the summer on this beach and just had to return on vacatlion! Thanks to us, they now are planning to spend their 24 hr layover in Miami at Haulover! The other couple is from Indiana, I told them about Bart and Jan playing up there at Sun Shower in August, maybe they'll go (and us to)! On the way home with Mike and Ginger we stopped at the Petite Casino store and snagged some Ma Dou Dou for them and us, they had never heard of it. 

As we were leaving for the beach, Chloe and Thierry were leaving to go meet new guests Bill and Suzie who had been stuck on the Dutch side by the strike. They met them in Oyster Pond and led them through the back roads around the Orleans blockade. Bill and Suzie are semi-famous old pros here, he runs the SXM Naturism FB page. We shared our Ma Dou Dou with them at happy hour by the pool. 

For Joni's birthday we "dressed up" and went out to dinner at Le Telegraphe in the village.  Excellent dinner, salmon for her and an exotic chicken something for me. PLUS creme brulee', ecstasy! 

All for now, another beautiful morning here after quite a few showers overnight. Keeps the island green!

Because several folks have asked for our opinions, we took a stab at comparing the 3 naturist-friendly accommodations that we stayed in near Orient Beach (OB) for our 50th Anniversary trip to St. Martin, 12-22 Dec, 2019. Of course these criteria  and rankings are totally subjective, based on our personal whims, likes, etc. I should preface this with the statement that all 3 of these places are VERY nice and we would not hesitate to stay in any one of them again for a week or more at a time. Our rankings  are based on very slight differences for us, excepting the view. I guess a 4th contender should have been mentioned i,.e. a private villa. There are lots of them from what I see in the forums, many with private enough pools that could render the place naturist-friendly. 50th Anniversary Trip; Jardin D'O and Rancho del Sol, 16-17Dec

So we  moved to Jardin D'O Monday AM, just a 5 minute drive but quite a different neighborhood from Club Fantastico. Here is their website:  Jardin D'O . It's located across N7 (main road around the island) from Mt. Vernon behind 2 gates. Seems secure but also a bit of a pain to get to . The idea of this place (and our unit Indigo) here is more like a  group of small 1 BR apartments each with their own kitchen and patio area. Guests are on their own more than at Club F, i.e. no breakfast, provide your own stuff like paper towels and hooch! Nice little kitchen with BIG frig, TV in living room but with only French stations, big bathroom, queen bed (vs king at Club F). Nice pool, (no hot water for the shower), fairly uncomfortable wicker lounge chairs, no view other than the garden flora.  But we do like it anyway, we feel somehow more like French locals here.  And really close to the pharmacy, bakery and supermarkets! 50th Anniversary Trip of Chuck and Joni- Start of the trip, Haulover and St. Martin

Hi everyone! We are on our big beachtrek for our 50th anniversary!  Itinerary: 3 days at Haulover Beach near Miami and 10 days in St. Martin (French West Indies) for just the 2 of us, and then a week in the Turks and Caicos with our whole family, 6 adults and 6 kids.  We just finished 3 very nice days at Haulover in the company of friends Gary and Pauline and Charlie and Cate.  Was sunny every day with temps in the low 80s and fresh seabreeze. (see Joni's sketch, attached).  Since we were there on weekdays it was not at all crowded but still plenty of sun lovers showed up. We drove our motorhome down here and stayed in it at Oleta River State Park which is only a short drive from Haulover.  Oleta rents cabins but we slept in our rig  in the parking lot next to our cabin. It was fine except for the man-eating no see'ums around dusk and in the morning! We needed bug spray just to leave the RV. Cheap though, about $57 per night and very nice bathhouse!
