50th Celebration, Grand Turk, 27 Dec


The day of our anniversary started with a nice rainbow, ended with a gorgeous sunset and in between our family treated Joni and me to a wonderful party in honor of the day. Here's the rainbow in the morning, as usual a photo doesn't do it justice. That's Red our adopted house dog.

The family went on a boat trip as I mentioned earlier. 10 of them fit into this taxi van.

Nice thing about this small island is that nothing is more that a couple of miles away. Joni and I stayed home and enjoyed each  other's company.  We did make a quick run in our Suzuki to one of the little grocery stores just a mile away, restocked our supplies of drinking water and candy mints, and on the way home dropped into the Grand Turk Liquor store to buy some more rum- not at all cheap here like it is in St. Martin. There was a small rhubarb going on with the locals hanging out there, seems one of them wanted to buy a 6 pack and the minimum is a case- sounds like Pennsylvania's archaic laws! All was well, his buddy bought the rest.

After the gang returned, Lori and Mike's unit was designated off limits so we knew something was going on in honor of our 50th and that we weren't going out for dinner. They were decorating again! Ben made yummy margaritas while we waited. Finally they told us to come over and they greeted us all dressed in flowered shirts, red tops for the girls, blue shirts for the guys.

And the tables were set for a party with some great Mexican food catered by a local company:

And they had some more surprises for us, including a photo book of all our family memories

The gals both got us beautiful, touching cards that had the same text in them!  (why Lori is laughing)

It was quite a night! And we woke to another beautiful rainbow. That's Joni and Katie in their pj's looking for the best spot down the beach for pics.

Because several folks have asked for our opinions, we took a stab at comparing the 3 naturist-friendly accommodations that we stayed in near Orient Beach (OB) for our 50th Anniversary trip to St. Martin, 12-22 Dec, 2019. Of course these criteria  and rankings are totally subjective, based on our personal whims, likes, etc. I should preface this with the statement that all 3 of these places are VERY nice and we would not hesitate to stay in any one of them again for a week or more at a time. Our rankings  are based on very slight differences for us, excepting the view. I guess a 4th contender should have been mentioned i,.e. a private villa. There are lots of them from what I see in the forums, many with private enough pools that could render the place naturist-friendly. We had our eyes on several but in the end wanted to be pampered on our 50th. Might do a villa next time if we go with friends, for example. 50th Anniversary Trip; Forgotten Tidbits, 19 Dec

I awoke at 5 this morning, thinking of stuff that I should have included in previous posts.  They started as long emails to friends and family so some basic background info is missing on the off chance that someone who doesn't know us might read this blog..  And some interesting info has come along by talking to to folks down here so might as well spread some rumors. Firstly a couple of words on who we are. Chuck and Joni Goodwin, soon to be married 50 years! We married right after the Christmas 1969 snowstorm that shut down the NY Thruway and kept half our wedding guests, bridesmaids, etc away from the wedding in central NJ. I'll skip most of non-relevant life stories after that other than to say that I was a semiconductor engineer and Joni a math teacher, we raised 2 great daughters who in turn are raising a combined total of 6 incredible grandkids. 50th Anniversary Trip; Jardin D'O and Rancho del Sol, 16-17Dec

So we  moved to Jardin D'O Monday AM, just a 5 minute drive but quite a different neighborhood from Club Fantastico. Here is their website:  Jardin D'O . It's located across N7 (main road around the island) from Mt. Vernon behind 2 gates. Seems secure but also a bit of a pain to get to . The idea of this place (and our unit Indigo) here is more like a  group of small 1 BR apartments each with their own kitchen and patio area. Guests are on their own more than at Club F, i.e. no breakfast, provide your own stuff like paper towels and hooch! Nice little kitchen with BIG frig, TV in living room but with only French stations, big bathroom, queen bed (vs king at Club F). Nice pool, (no hot water for the shower), fairly uncomfortable wicker lounge chairs, no view other than the garden flora.  But we do like it anyway, we feel somehow more like French locals here.  And really close to the pharmacy, bakery and supermarkets!
