50th Anniversary Trip! Gettin' cozy in Orient despite the strike! 13-14Dec

Dang if the strike isn't still on! A sign of same on Club O beach is that there are no umbrellas! But it is still beautiful. (See pic) And Orient Village is closing down!  According to our hosts, even the restaurants are closing! So finally the strike is affecting Orient. But lucky for us, we are still tucked safely up in Club Fantastico where Thierry sez he is making us dinner!  Yippee! Not too tough given the nice pool, etc here.

So we partook of the fine dining in Orient Village last night, Le Piment in particular. Great place and food. The small grocery store, Le Petit Casino, has a good supply of booze and a few other things, including SImply popcorn! We bought some Carib beer, peanut butter and jelly, Thierry bought us a spare baguette this AM and we were set for lunch today, just in case the Perch was closed, which it was!

There were only about 20 people on Club O beach today, sad. Again no one from the Dutch side could make it. But we got in a few hours and took a nice walk down the beach to confirm that a lot of construction is going on and some of the beach clubs are coming back.  Kontiki is fully ready and 2-3 others are almost there.  Orange Fever was open but closing down by early afternoon.  Sadly, 3 cruise ships were in today but all the cruisers stayed on the Dutch side. Lots of money being lost.

Here are a couple of Joni's sketches from/of the beach:

For sure we aren't going anywhere and feel pretty safe. From what we hear the only way out of the French side STILL, is by boat. Heard several ppl saying that they are taking a boat from Anse Marcel (2 mi from here) to the airport to catch their flight! The general feeling is that it can't last too long, but, if our host is any indication, a shrug and who knows! We have a week before panic time!

And Joni's birthday is tomorrow. Should we plan a big party on the beach?? Ideas please.

Here are a few shots of Club F and environs, including one of Joni's sketches of the view. The door to our room is behind the palm tree in the last photo.
